Well, it wasn't his ONLY request. He also asked that his wedding ring be melted down and created the pin he attaches to his cloak that has the emblem of Agraria. He couldn't part with his ring, but keeping it was difficult, too. So it was shaped into something new--just like his dedication. Because in case it wasn't obvious, Desolair never remarried.
